Obadiah

Obadiah is the shortest book in the Old Testament, a single chapter of prophecy against Edom, the nation descended from Esau. Edom had gloated over Jerusalem's downfall and even helped its enemies, and the prophet declares that its pride and violence will bring its own ruin.

Behind the oracle lies the ancient rivalry of Jacob and Esau and a larger principle: 'As you have done, it shall be done to you' (verse 15). The book ends with the assurance that 'the kingdom shall be the Lord's' — judgement on the arrogant, and vindication for God's people.
