2 John

2 John is a brief note, addressed to 'the elect lady and her children' — likely a local church and its members. The elder commends them for walking in the truth and urges them to keep loving one another, as they have from the beginning.

Its pointed concern is with travelling false teachers who deny that Jesus came in the flesh: such deceivers are not to be welcomed or supported, lest the church share in their error. Short and sharp, it balances the call to love with the duty to guard the truth.
