2 Peter

New Testament · Epistle / Letter · Traditionally attributed to Peter · 3 chapters

2 Peter reads as the apostle's parting testament, written to guard the church against false teachers who deny the truth and scoff at the promise of Christ's return. Peter urges believers to grow in the qualities of a fruitful faith and to remember the trustworthy witness of the apostles and prophets.

Against the scoffers he affirms that the day of the Lord will come, that God's apparent delay is patience giving time for repentance, and that Christians should look for 'new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells' (3:13). A call to persevere in truth and holiness.
