Micah

Old Testament Β· Prophets Β· Traditionally attributed to Micah Β· 7 chapters

Micah, a contemporary of Isaiah, prophesied against both Israel and Judah in the eighth century BC, condemning the leaders, priests and prophets who exploited the poor while claiming God's favour. His message alternates sharp judgement with radiant hope.

Micah foretells that the ruler of Israel will come from Bethlehem (5:2) β€” the verse the wise men are shown β€” and offers one of Scripture's clearest summaries of true religion: 'to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God' (6:8).
