Song of Solomon

The Song of Solomon (Song of Songs) is a collection of love poetry celebrating the delight and longing between a bride and her beloved. Frank and lyrical, it revels in the beauty of the body and the ache and joy of desire, with hardly a mention of God.

Its place in the canon has long been read on two levels: as an affirmation that romantic love is a good gift of the Creator, and, in a long allegorical tradition, as a picture of the love between God and his people, or Christ and the church. Either way, it stands as Scripture's great poem of love.
