ScholarlyThe name Achsah (Hebrew ʿAksah, עכסה) is commonly derived from a root meaning 'anklet' or 'bangle,' an ornament worn on the ankle. Caleb's daughter is notable in the text chiefly for her shrewd request for the upper and lower springs (Gulloth-mayim) as a marriage dowry.
Name meaning 'anklet' given in standard Hebrew lexica (BDB, HALOT); cf. the related plural ʿakasim ('anklets') in Isaiah 3:18.
