Name & titles
ScholarlyScripture names two different women called Adah (Hebrew ʿAdah, עדה): a wife of Lamech and mother of Jabal and Jubal, and a Hittite wife of Esau. The name is usually explained from a root meaning 'ornament/adornment' (or, by some, 'dawn/morning'), a common type of feminine personal name.
Onomastic derivation ('ornament,' from the root ʿ-d-h, 'to adorn') given in standard Hebrew lexica (BDB, HALOT); the two distinct bearers are distinguished in the Genesis text itself.
