Life, role & deeds
ScholarlyPaul greets Junia as 'outstanding among the apostles'. The name is feminine, and was read as a woman's by the early church β€” John Chrysostom marvelled that a woman was so called an apostle. Only from the Middle Ages was it re-accented as a man's name, 'Junias', otherwise unknown; modern critical editions have restored Junia.
