Revelation

Revelation, the Bible's closing book, is the apocalyptic vision given to John on the island of Patmos — 'the revelation of Jesus Christ'. Through dazzling, symbolic imagery of seals, trumpets, bowls, beasts and a great harlot city, it unveils the spiritual conflict behind history and the certain triumph of God over evil.

It opens with letters to seven churches and climaxes in the fall of 'Babylon', the return of Christ, the last judgement, and the new heaven and new earth where 'God will wipe away every tear' and dwell with his people forever (21:4). A book of comfort for the persecuted, it ends the whole Bible with the prayer, 'Come, Lord Jesus.'
