Name & titles
ScholarlyAchim (Greek Acheim) is generally understood as a Hellenized short form of a Hebrew theophoric name such as Yakim / Yehoyakim, from the root q-w-m ('to rise/establish'), meaning roughly 'Yahweh will establish' or 'Yahweh raises up.' He appears only as a link in Matthew's post-exilic genealogy of Jesus and has no independent attestation.
Onomastic derivation discussed in Greek NT onomastic references and lexica of biblical names; the Hebrew base form Yakim appears at 1 Chronicles 24:12.
