ArchaeologyLeonard Woolley's excavations (1922–34) revealed the great ziggurat, the Royal Cemetery with its treasure-filled tombs, and thick water-laid silt he controversially linked to the biblical flood — the wealthy Sumerian city the book of Genesis names as Abraham's homeland.
