2 Timothy

New Testament · Epistle / Letter · Traditionally attributed to Paul · 4 chapters

2 Timothy is Paul's last letter, written from a Roman prison as he faces execution — his moving final charge to his 'beloved child' Timothy. He urges him to be unashamed of the gospel, to endure suffering, and to guard and pass on the faith to reliable people.

Against the coming of difficult times he commends the Scriptures, 'breathed out by God and profitable for teaching' (3:16), and looks back on his own life with peace: 'I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith' (4:7). It is Paul's tender, courageous farewell.
